I’m an independent Digital Media Professional based in Hayle, Cornwall.
I have worked in the digital media industry since 1998, freelance and for number of design agencies as well individual companies to look after their websites and digital media.
Over the past 20 years I have created countless websites, software and mobile applications and have worked with many reputable companies including Tiscali (now TalkTalk), Royal Cornwall Show, British Home Stores and Cornwall Council to name a few.
Much of my spare time goes into developing my skills and knowledge in the Strategy, User-Experience (UX) and Technology, which goes hand-in-hand with my current role as Technical Lead and Senior developer. Having worked with so many businesses over the years, as well having run my own successful ecommerce business generating almost one million pounds turnover, I have real-world knowledge and experience of developing, marketing and day-to-day running of digitally foccused businesses.
Both user-centric design and business logic are really important to me and I have more recently run very successful UX and strategy workshops for SME and largeer companies such as The Ritz Club london.
Having hands-on knowledge of multiple language, platforms and ecommerce gives me invaluable experience which can be applied to projects I manage.
Starting out from a young age my personal computer experience started in the 90s with DOS, Windows, Commodore and Amiga computers. In the late 90s I started to follow my interest in programming and primarily worked on the Windows environment. I build many windows computer networks and created software for local schools and businesses.
Later I progressed into Graphic Design, Website and Mobile Development and moved over to Linux based environments and am now entirely Mac based. That doesn’t mean I can’t work with Microsoft software, I actively use Microsoft Office and even completed a qualification in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
In 2011 I registered my own company, Silvanite Limited, which has developed various mobile apps and websites. Now the company’s main focus is putting all the experience gained in the industry to good use by helping local businesses establish an online and mobile presence.
Born in Germany, and having moved to Cornwall in 1997, I speak fluent German and English, although I prefer to speak English these days and only have a slight accent. I have worked with clients in the UK, Germany and the United States.
I love living in Cornwall; currently near Hayle and personal interests include Volleyball, Motorsports, Gadgets and Technology. Volleyball used to take up a lot of my time, playing for Kernow in the National Volleyball League involves its fair share of weekend travelling to Wales, Bristol and even Essex. To help increase the sports popularity in cornwall I run and manage both the Cornwall Volleyball Association website and the Truro Volleyball Club.
I actively maintain and contribute to a number of open-source projects. More-or-less all developers these days benefit and use open-source software and I really enjoy contributing to help other developers. Microsoft even recognised me for my contributions through a mention on their Visual Studio Code twitter account.
